Unfortunately, there were some decisions made this week that didn’t meet CHAMP Expectations and we did not earn Athletic Wear this week. Sometimes we fall short of a goal, but that doesn’t define us. What matters is how we respond, what we learn, and the effort we put into what comes next. As Michael Jordan said, “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeeded.” We won’t let this define us; we can come back better next week and show what it really means to be a CHAMP!

We also have so much to celebrate! Our One Act Play cast and crew won 1st in Region, our FFA Nursery/Landscape team placed 3rd in the NATION, and our Bulldog Brigade earned its highest performance score of the season last weekend!

We will have more opportunities to cheer on our Bulldogs this weekend and next week, including Cross Country in Sectionals, Flag Football and Football at home, competitive and game day cheer away, and our MPHS Cabaret at the Fine Arts Center. Let’s show up and support our athletes, friends, and peers.

Have a great Friday and a good weekend….don’t forget to set your clocks back!

One team. One goal. Go Dogs!

The Mary Persons High School Nursery/Landscape Team is Top 3 in the Nation!

The week of October 19-23, Carter Johnson, Joey Thompson, Boss Malcom and Autumn Smith (MP Class of '26) represented Mary Persons High School at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in the Nursery/Landscape Division after securing their state win last year. By the end of the week, they had secured their spot as one of the top 3 teams in the nation!

This team is led by Mrs. Ashley Thompson, agriculture teacher at MPHS.

We are incredibly proud of this team and their huge accomplishment! Way to go!

You’ve earned ATHLETIC WEAR tomorrow for being CHAMPs this week back from Fall Break! Keep showing what it means to be Courteous, Honorable, Accountable, Motivated, and Prepared. We’ll have visitors in the building next week, so let’s make sure they see the best of MPHS in our classrooms, hallways, and throughout the school.

Remember that the athletic wear dress code still applies; dress appropriately and represent MPHS with pride.

As Michael Jordan said, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” Let’s keep that Bulldog teamwork going by supporting our extracurriculars:
-Flag Football
-One Act
-Volleyball-Elite 8!
-Cross Country-moving on to sectionals
-Football-on the road for the next two Fridays

Some of you have earned your CHAMP Athletic Pass for the first nine weeks, and will be getting your pass tomorrow. It’s a good time to redeem this pass for free entry into any home event. Bring your CHAMP Athletic Pass and your STUDENT ID when you redeem for any high school home athletic event.

Also, if you are able to, show up for our upcoming HOSA-sponsored blood drive. It’s a great opportunity to support an important cause and make a difference in our community.

Enjoy your athletic wear, make good choices, support your fellow Bulldogs, and show our visitors what it means to be a CHAMP!

Congratulations, Bulldogs, you earned athletic wear this week! That means you had a great week, exemplified what it means to be a CHAMP, and we’re giving you a little Friday reward before Fall Break.

Just remember: Athletic Wear days come with a dress code, too. Make sure what you wear follows the expectations. If we want to keep earning athletic wear days, we need everyone to do their part and follow the guidelines set forth in the MPHS Student Handbook.

What you did this week is a great example of how consistency pays off. As Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said, “Success isn’t overnight. It’s when every day you get a little better than the day before.” Keep making good choices, and we’ll keep finding ways to recognize them.

Finish the week strong, enjoy Fall Break, and take some time to relax and recharge!

And for those of you staying in town next Friday, come out and support your Bulldogs as we take on Howard High School! Bring your friends, your school spirit, and let's pack the stands!

Have a great Friday and a fantastic Fall Break!

MP 11th Grader, Bella Grace Sanders, has been selected by State School Superintendent Richard Woods to serve on the 2026–2027 Georgia Student Advisory Council. She is one of just 84 students selected from 1,427 applicants statewide for this year’s council.

Throughout the school year, council members will meet with Superintendent Woods to share their experiences as students, discuss issues affecting education, and provide feedback on how state policies and initiatives impact Georgia’s students.

In addition to serving as student representatives, council members will act as ambassadors for the Superintendent and participate in service projects benefiting their schools and communities. These experiences provide students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, put their ideas into action, and make a meaningful contribution to the communities they serve.

The Student Advisory Council includes students from across Georgia’s Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) regions, representing a variety of rural, suburban, and urban communities. Students are selected based on the strength of their applications, with consideration given to ensuring representation from throughout the state. More than one student from a school district may be selected.

We are proud to congratulate Bella Grace Sanders on this outstanding accomplishment and look forward to seeing the contributions she will make as a member of the 2026–2027 Georgia Student Advisory Council!

We didn’t meet our CHAMP goal this week, and unfortunately, we did not earn Athletic Wear. The good news is that one week doesn’t determine who we are as a school. We have a new opportunity next week to raise the bar and show what being a CHAMP is all about.

As Dolly Parton said, “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” We’re going to have weeks that don’t go exactly as planned, but what matters is how we respond and what we do next. Let’s make next week a great week before Fall Break!

And there is a LOT happening in Bulldog Nation! Congratulations to our Volleyball Team—the Region Champions!
Tomorrow, our football team takes on Peach County High School in a big region matchup. On Saturday, come out and support our JROTC at their Raider Meet and Competition Cheer teams, both at home! Next week, we’ll also be cheering on Softball, JV Football, and Cross Country as they compete.

Let’s finish this week strong and come back Monday ready to make it a great one.

Be Courteous. Be Honorable. Be Accountable. Be Motivated. Be Prepared. Be a CHAMP!

Mary Persons High School earned a school-record graduation rate of 95.69% for the 2025-2026 school year. That’s an increase of nearly two percentage points from 2025 and marks the seventh consecutive year above 90%.

“Our graduation rate reflects the hard work and dedication by our students, faculty and staff, administration, and community”, said Dr. Jim Finch, Monroe County Schools Superintendent . “A district’s graduation rate is one of the strongest indicators of successful student outcomes. A huge thank you to those who have helped position our school district in a way that continues to make all of us proud.”

“An excellent graduation rate is a reflection of hard work, perseverance, and a shared commitment to student success. Our students worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone, and our staff worked tirelessly to provide the support and opportunities they needed to succeed,” said Mary Persons Principal Sher Epps. “Georgia has also expanded the pathways available to students, giving more students meaningful avenues to earn a high school diploma. At Mary Persons, our continued goal is not simply to help students graduate, but to prepare them for what comes next. We are proud of our students for taking advantage of these opportunities and proud of our staff for helping prepare them for success in high school and beyond.”

Georgia’s high-school seniors also recorded an all-time-high graduation rate – and slight year-over-year improvement – in 2026. The four-year graduation rate rose to 88.5% -- up from 87.2% in 2025, and an all-time high since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation first required in 2011 by federal law.

As we wrap up another week, remember that being a CHAMP is about the choices we make every day: Being Courteous, Honorable, Accountable, Motivated, and Prepared.

This week, we had some great examples of CHAMP behavior, but we also had some moments where we fell short of the standard. Because of that, we did not earn Athletic Wear this week. Next week is a new opportunity!

Some our Bulldogs are also not following our athletic wear dress code. Please make sure that when we earn it, you are wearing athletic wear that meets the expectations outlined in the student handbook. We want everyone to be able to participate, but continued violations may result in being dress coded. Take a moment to make sure what you're wearing meets the expectations before you come to school.

And Bulldogs, we have a BIG GAME against Troup County tomorrow! Let's show up, support our team, and represent Mary Persons with the class and sportsmanship that make us proud.

Next week, we also have several opportunities to support our friends and classmates as they compete and perform. Check the school calendar and announcements, show up when you can, and remember that being a CHAMP means supporting the people around you.

As Dwayne Johnson says, “Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency.”

Let's be consistent. Let's make good choices, support one another, and finish this week strong.

Bulldogs, you have brought the SPIRIT all week long, and it has been great seeing our halls, classrooms, and campus filled with Bulldog pride! Homecoming is about celebrating who we are as a school and creating memories together, and you have definitely brought the energy this week.

As Dwayne Johnson reminds us, “Success isn’t overnight. It’s when every day you get a little better than the day before.” Let’s keep bringing that same energy, effort, and positive attitude to everything we do.

Tomorrow, we finish Spirit Week with STAR-SPANGLED SPIRIT DAY!

⭐ Seniors – Gold
🔵 Juniors – Blue
🔴 Sophomores – Red
⚪ Freshmen – White

Show up and show out! Athletic Wear is always a part of Homecoming Week, but let’s see which class can bring the most school spirit and finish the week strong with our Homecoming Pep Rally! Get ready for some energy, some fun, and plenty of Bulldog pride as we celebrate our students, teams, and Homecoming Royalty.

And tomorrow night… WE’RE UNDER THE LIGHTS! Our Bulldogs take on Westside, and we need the student section loud, proud, and CHAMP-like from kickoff to the final whistle. Bring the energy, support your classmates, and show everyone what it means to be a Bulldog! We’ll also crown our Homecoming Royalty, so make sure you’re there to be part of the celebration! We will end our Spirit Week with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday.

Next week brings even more Bulldog events, including Softball, the Chorus Concert, Volleyball, Football, and Parent Conferences. There are plenty of ways to get involved, support your classmates, and be part of what makes MPHS special.

Finish Spirit Week strong. Celebrate responsibly. And most importantly: BE A CHAMP!

It’s been a great week at MPHS! As you look back on everything we have accomplished so far this year, be proud of the way you all have represented Mary Persons with the CHAMP spirit. The energy and positive attitudes across our school continue to make MP shine.

Enjoy your holiday next Monday and take some time to rest and recharge. When we return, though, we will be right back in the action! We have a busy week ahead with softball and football all representing the Black and Gold at home and volleyball and cross country competing away. Tomorrow night, our football team takes on Rockmart and we will celebrate our seniors at Senior Night. Don’t forget to buy your student ticket at the reduced student rate during lunch tomorrow! We encourage you to come out, support your classmates, and be part of the excitement. There is nothing quite like seeing our Bulldog family come together to cheer on our teams!

Looking ahead, the SAT will be administered at Mary Persons next Saturday. Students, please continue to pay attention to the SAT and ACT dates posted on our video boards throughout the school. If you have questions about registration, testing dates, or which test may be right for you, please reach out to your counselor. Taking the initiative to plan ahead can make a big difference when it comes to your future.

As you head into the long weekend, remember that challenges and opportunities are both part of the journey. Keep working, keep pushing forward, and don't let something that seems difficult today convince you that it can't be accomplished.

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” — Nelson Mandela

Enjoy your Friday in ATHLETIC WEAR and then have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend! Rest up, recharge, and come back ready to make next week another great one. Stay Courteous. Stay Honorable. Stay Accountable. Stay Motivated. Stay Prepared.

As we wrap up the week, we want to take a moment to recognize the many ways you have continued to show what it means to be a CHAMP, being Courteous, Honorable, Accountable, Motivated, and Prepared. The way you represent yourselves, your classmates, and Mary Persons High School matters, and we appreciate the positive energy we have seen throughout our school.

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” -Robert Collier

One of the best examples of that Bulldog spirit has been our student sections at athletic events. Thank you to everyone who has been showing up, making some noise, and supporting your fellow Bulldogs! Your energy in the stands makes a difference for our athletes and coaches, and it is great to see you supporting one another. Keep showing up and showing out!

We have several opportunities coming up next week to get out and support our teams. We have home football and softball events, so make plans to come out!

And next Friday night is a big one; it is our first home football game of the season AND Senior Night! Come out, support our team, and help us celebrate our seniors as we recognize all they have contributed to Mary Persons.

You have earned athletic wear for tomorrow, so enjoy it! However, remember that athletic wear does not mean dress code expectations no longer apply. Please make sure your clothing still meets the guidelines for the day. Shirts and shorts must be an appropriate length for all students. Take a moment before you leave home tomorrow to make sure what you are wearing meets the guidelines. We want everyone to enjoy the day while continuing to represent Mary Persons with pride.

Thank you for another great week, Bulldogs. Keep making good choices, keep supporting each other, and continue to show everyone what CHAMP looks like.

Have a great Friday!
