October 2, 2026 - Monroe County Schools moved up four spots to the 10th best school system in Georgia, according to the latest Niche rankings. In addition, Monroe County Schools remains the #1 district in Central Georgia, and is in the top 7% of 10,449 school districts nationally.
“Our top ten ranking directly reflects the commitment and performance of our teachers, students, faculty, staff, administration and community,” said Monroe County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jim Finch. “School districts do not succeed without strong community support. Our families believe in a strong education system and they expect us to deliver the best outcomes for students every year. We’re just excited to be considered among the best systems in Georgia.”
The 2027 Best School Districts in Georgia according to the Niche are as follows:
1. Buford City Schools
2. Oconee County Schools
3. Forsyth County Schools
4. Fayette County Schools
5. Decatur City Schools
6. Pierce County Schools
7. Carrollton City Schools
8. Bremen City Schools
9. Morgan County Charter Schools
10. Monroe County Schools
11. Carroll County Schools
12. Cartersville City Schools
13. Cobb County Schools
14. Columbia County Schools
15. Fulton County Schools
In addition to the overall ranking, Monroe County Schools is listed as the District with the Best Teachers, the Best Place to Teach, and the Best District for Athletes in the Macon area.
“Simply put, the school districts with the best teachers are going to win year in and year out. That statement is not meant to diminish or ignore the efforts of our support staff. But research and data are clear–the number one indicator of student success is the teacher in the classroom,” said Dr. Finch. “We will continue to attract, retain, support, and compensate the best teachers in the state.”
