Media Specialist

Lauri English is in her 19th year as media specialist of Mary Persons High School, and her 27th year in education.  Mrs. English received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a minor in French from Georgia Southwestern State University (formerly Georgia Southwestern College) in 1985 and her Masters in Instructional Technology/Library Media from Georgia College and State University in 1999.  She received her Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Technology from Valdosta State University in 2006.  

Prior to working in the field of education, Mrs. English worked in retail for seven years, managing a clothing store.  She began her teaching career in 1991 as French teacher at Mary Persons High School. She has lead several EF tours to Europe, which included trips to Paris, London, Amsterdam, Brussels, and to Normandy. Mrs. English transitioned to the position of media specialist in 1999, and was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2001.  She served as the advisor for the Empescope, the school’s yearbook, from 1993-2003. Over the years she has also served as sponsor for the Pep Club, the French Club, GAMA (Georgia Association of Media Assistants), and the Page Turners Club.  She is currently in her 16th year as an advisor for the Beta Club. As media specialist, Mrs. English oversees the school’s website, and edits and publishes The Bulldog Beat, our school’s award winning enewsletter, in addition to her other media specialist duties.

Mrs. English is a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Georgia Library Media Association, and Georgia Association of Instructional Technology.  She and her husband, Mark, have been married for 32 years.  They have 2 sons, Tyler (his wife Sarah) and Ryan. Both are graduates of Mary Persons High School.  They have a 2 year old grandson, Collier.
